The manufacturer of the famous Defy, and the RAZR, the graph of Motorola in the mobile market decreased after the Google acquisition took effect. Moto X was the first product by the company after its amalgamation and now after an epigrammatic sabbatical, Motorola has returned to the Indian market with its new Smartphone named Moto G, which is an affordable device for cost-conscious customers. This new Android Smartphone is a Dual-SIM phone that assures high-end specifications like most Chinese offerings in this price range, but with superior build and support that only weathered OEMs are capable of delivering. The new Moto G is priced at Rs 12,499/- for the 8GB and Rs 13,999/- for the 16GB. Let us have a detailed look at its features and specifications.
Design and Display
The Moto G comes with decent looks and slim built and one can easily mistake it with a Xolo or a Micromax phone. Nevertheless, when held in hands it gives a different feeling as it sits snugly in the hands and the curvy back makes for a very comforting fit. The phone is lightweight and slim, which makes it comfortable to carry in pocket as well as makes it manageable. The phone comes with a rubberized back, which is interchangeable and users can as well opt for a flip cover. There are no capacitive buttons at the bottom and seems that the bottom space has not been properly utilized. The ports and buttons take their standard spot around the device and are ergonomically designed. This Dual-SIM phone has no SD card slot, which means that the internal memory cannot be expanded. Furthermore, the 2070mAh battery that comes equipped with it is non-removable.
Coming to the display, the phone is equipped with 4.5 IPS HD display with as screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. It delivers vivid and effective colors along with sharp text and for all these; the credit goes to the high pixel density of 326ppi. Processor, Operating System and Memory
The Moto G boasts of high sensitivity and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.3, which is upgradable to 4.4.2 KitKat. This phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, a quad-core CPU locked at 1.2GHz, which ensures smoother and faster performance. For enhanced performance, multi-tasking and smooth functioning of applications, this phone is coupled with 1 GB RAM. With this, the new Moto G has created a benchmark in this price range. Motorola has added a couple of their own apps and yanks to enhance the user experience. ‘Assist’ lets users to automate their ringing profile based on a predefined activity like users can set the phone to stop all notifications while sleeping and automatically turn them on when one wakes up. The gallery app has also been modified and the usual suite of Google apps is bundled with it. The phone is available with standard 8 GB internal memory; however, there is also 16 GB version available. As the memory of the phone is not expandable, two years 50 GB free storage on Google Drive is offered.
Camera
The Dual-SIM Smartphone Moto G features a 5 MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera to enable video calling. Although the phone is equipped with a 5 MP shooter, the picture quality is just ‘ok’ and this is because of the low resolution. However, with good sensor the pictures turn out to be decent ones. In better lighting conditions, users can get better picture quality. The UI is slightly re-designed pop-out carousel with all the options on it, but the options for scene modes or the ability to change the resolution is not present.
Media
The Moto G has been equipped with audio and video players and has added the ‘Audio Effects’ option in the settings menu which affects the earphones and the speaker as well, delivering high-quality audio output. The phone also has separate settings earphones and speaker. It delivers high-quality sound when paired with good IEMs but the loud speakers of the phone is not good and just enough for alerts. Moto G supports 1080p video playback but does not record videos in this resolution. The phone is also equipped with FM, which allows users to enjoy music while traveling.

The Moto G supports 3G as well as quad-band 2G. In addition, it has Wi-Fi ‘n’, Bluetooth v4.0, USB host and GLONASS as connectivity options. The phone is bundled with non-removable lithium-ion 2070mAh battery, which lasts for almost 8 hours with a single charge, which is decent enough.

This phone has definitely created a benchmark among the Smartphones available within the price bracket of Rs. 15,000/-. This makes it the best, value-for-money and if I am given a choice to pick one within this price range, Moto G would be my choice as it has no noticeable demerits. I would definitely recommend this phone to the budget-conscious customers looking for a good Smartphone.
