How Should India Contain China's Rise?

China is expanding its military might. In contrast, Indian scenario looks quite weak wherein there are only proposals and then a huge lag of time for these proposals to become reality. In another perspective, China is also growing sound economically, which is also a challenge to India. Unless India becomes economically steady, competent enough to give China a hard time, India cannot really contain China's rise both in terms of Economics and Defense Might. What do you think could India possibly strategize in order to gain an edge over China?
