The festival of Hariyali Teej is a monsoon festival, which is celebrated by every Hindu married woman all over India. This festival is celebrated on the 3rd day of Sukla Paksha, the bright moon fortnight of the month of Shraavan or Sawan of the Hindu calendar. This festival is celebrated to commemorate the reunion of God Shiva and his beloved wife Parvati after living separately for more than 100 years.

History of Teej Festival
The Hariyali Teej festival that is celebrated during the month of Saawan is considered to be an auspicious festival for the Hindus. This festival signifies the the reunion of God Shiva and his beloved wife Parvati, who went through strict fasting for more than 100 years to win back the heart of her Husband. She was reborn to prove her unconditional love and devotion towards her husband, Lord Shiva and at last after 108 years of long sacrifice was fruitful and he accepted her as his wife. This festival is celebrated to honor the devotion and love of Mata Parvati, also known as Teej Mata. On the day of Hariyali Teej, both married and unmarried women seek her blessings for a blissful married life.

The festival of Hariyali Teej is celebrated with zest and splendor. The women folk on this day keep fast without water and offers prayer to Goddess Parvati. They buy new clothes and put mehendi on their hands to mark the piousness and auspiciousness of this day. Husbands gift their wives with presents and make them feel special. This is a major festival of Rajasthan and is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Besides Rajasthan, it is also celebrated in the states of Bihar and Haryana.
