Blackberry and Apple have always been tough competitors in manufacturing Smartphones. Both the companies have launched their new models back to back. Apple launched its iPhone 5s in September and Z30 in November this year in India. Both the phones come with advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the areas on which both the phones can be compared.
Design and Display
When it comes to design, both the phones feature a candybar form factor. However, Z30 is a little bulky and heavier than iPhone 5s as it measures 5.53 x 2.83 x 0.37 inches and weighs approx. 170 gms, whereas iPhone 5s measures 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches and weighs 112 gms. In addition, Z30 is made of aluminium, which makes it durable as well as corrosion free but adds to its weight. The Z30 features volume buttons on the right and power as well as the screen lock button on the top of the front panel, besides there is a 3.5mm headset jack while 5s has volume button and power as well as screen lock on the left and headset jack at the bottom. Both the phone has LED flash alongside the primary camera. The Z30 from Blackberry is available only in two colours, i.e. Black and White, while the iPhone 5 S is available in 4 different colours i.e. Black, White, Silver and Golden.
The Z30 comes with 5 inch large Super AMOLED display with a maximum screen resolution of up to 720 x 1280 pixels and 295 ppi pixel density. While, the iPhone 5s features a 4 inch LCD screen with IPS technology and has a screen resolution of 640×1136 pixels and 326 ppi pixel density. Despite the fact that both the phones have capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch support, the iPhone 5s has an additional feature, i.e. Oleophobic coating, which makes the screen anti-fingerprint resistant.

Both the phones are bundled with advanced features and functions. The Blackberry Z30 is powered by Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960T Pro processor with a clock rate of 1700 MHz has a Krait 300 and Adreno 320 graphic processing unit. Whereas, the iPhone 5s is equipped with Dual-Core Apple A7 with 64-bit architecture that has a clock rate 1300 MHz and has a PowerVR G6430 graphic processing unit for enriched graphics and visuals. The Z30 has 2048 MB RAM (Dual-channel, 500 MHz) / LPDDR2, while iPhone 5s is equipped with 1024 MB RAM.
When it comes to operating system, both the phones run on the latest OS, i.e. Z30 runs on Blackberry 10.2 OS and iPhone 5s runs on iOS 7. In terms of connectivity, both the phones have WiFi 802.11 a, b, g, n, n 5 GHz and Bluetooth v4.0. Although, both the phones sport an 8MP primary camera, the iPhone 5s comes with Dual LED flash and can capture images using the continuous shooting mode at a frame rate of 10 frames per second (fps). Whereas , this feature is unavailable in Z30 and also has a single LED flash.
Among other features, iPhone 5s has an additional print scanner feature, which was not there in its predecessor. This feature enables users to unlock the phone by detecting the finger. Whereas, the Z30 comes with new features such as new Priority Hub and Attachment view, improve typing experience, lockscreen notification preview and allows viewing of notifications along with quick reply.
Battery Backup and Price in India
Both Blackberry and Apple are known for manufacturing phones with good battery backup. The all new Z30 from Blackberry makes use of 2880 mAh battery as the power source that offers a talk time of 18 hours and stand by time of 384 hours with a single charge. While, the iPhone 5s is powered by 1570 mAh Li-Ion battery with Talk time (3G) of 10 hours, stand by time (3G) of 250 hours and stand by time (4G) of 320 hours with as single charge. The price of both the phones have a huge difference, as the Z30 is available for Rs.39,990 and iPhone 5s is available for Rs. 49,999.
Despite of putting forth some of the differences between both Blackberry Z30 and Apple iPhone 5s, it is actually difficult to say which is better.
