The Royal Enfield bikes have been around for awhile now. The passion of customisation of Royal Enfield buyers has made sure that there are various options for the people who like to do different things. You can customise a Royal Enfield with new seat, saddle, handlebar, and so on. There are a few mechanical modifications that are popular too. One of them is the exhaust systems. There are various exhaust systems available for a Royal Enfield bike and we will tell you which one suits the best for your bike.
How an exhaust silencer works?
The exhaust system is quite complex and have a series of pipes linking engine to the exhaust muffler of the bike. The exhaust system also consists of a catalytic converter that convert harmful gases into water and carbon monoxide.
The exhausts are used for a few main reasons – bringing noise under control, direct the fumes away from the passengers, improve performance and fuel efficiency of the engine.
The catalytic converter is an important part as it contains catalysts like rhodium, platinum and palladium that treats the harmful gases coming out of the engine and converts them into lesser harmful gases and water.
What are the different types of exhaust available?
Absorption type – It works by by absorbing any high-frequency noises through the fibres inside the silencer. Such types of silencers are not effective against the thumps made by the engine. This the cheapest aftermarket silencers available in the market. Most silencers like Goldie, Rockets, Wild Boar and Indore fall under this category.
Reflection type – Such silencers reduce the noise by making the exhaust gases flow through different chambers in the silencer. Royal Enfield themselves provide this kind of aftermarket exhaust from their dealerships for off-road riding.
Combined type – There are silencers that use both absorption and reflection technique reduce the noise throughout the complete frequency range. All the factory fitted Royal Enfield bikes are offered with this silencer.
