It may not be the most well renowned city of India but it certainly has a lot to offer to people who love visiting small modest cities. A major city of Punjab, Jalandhar has a charm of its own. It is not only one of the oldest cities of Punjab but also the former capital before the city beautiful, Chandigarh was established. It lures tourists because of its rich culture, heavenly food preparations, and well who hasn’t heard about LPU(Lovely Professional University). LPU is India’s largest private university which offers around 200 courses in various fields to students from across the world. Situated on NH – 1, LPU is spread across an area of over 600 acres and has set a benchmark in the private education. The USP of this city has to be the manufacturing of sports goods like – cricket bats, footballs, and hockey sticks, etc. Today, Jalandhar accounts for more than 65% of India’s export of goods, it is an important supplier to over 130 countries including some of the very developed nations. Apart from this the city has a variety of things – from religious places to theme parks, from malls to tiny bazaars, from eateries to technological parks, this city houses everything. Narrowing down this long list of places to visit can be a tough job, we have made it easy for you –
Devi Talab Mandir – Situated in the heart of the city, this temple is constructed around a pond which is 200 years old. The temple has great religious significance as it happens to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in the Indian sub-continent. The temple is also famous for “Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan” which takes place in December every year and is one of the biggest classical Indian music festivals in the entire northern India.
Gurudwara Chhevin Patshahi – Located in the Basti Sheikh area of Jalandhar, this Gurudwara has great significance as Guru Hargobind came here to pay audience to a Muslim saint, Shaikh Darvesh and had an in-depth discussion with him on holy matters.
Imam Nasir Mausoleum and Jama Masjid – The 800-year old masjid is a beautiful piece of architecture which enshrines a sacred dargah and the presence of 400-year old Jama Masjid close to it just increases the beauty manifold. It is believed that Baba Farid stayed at this place and prayed for almost 40 days.
Wonderland – The best theme park in the city, Wonderland is a place for pure excitement and adventure. It is spread across an area of 11 acres and has wonderful rides like – flying jets, bumping cars, horror house, etc. Wonderland also houses a water park which has adventurous slides and a wave pool and indoor aqua dance. Apart from adventure, it lets you enjoy the serene view while you boat in clear waters, hang out and party in the discotheque and collect souvenirs too.
Pushpa Gujral Science City – One of its kind, this technological park gives great exposure to science enthusiasts. It has been created with an intention to cultivate the spirit of inquiry and imagination among people, especially the young minds. It covers various subjects like physical, applied, natural and social sciences, technology, agriculture, health sciences, energy, human evolution and civilization, the environment, ecosystems, Jurassic park as well as frontier areas like space, nuclear science, information technology, robotics and bio-technology.
Haveli, Rangla Punjab – The one place which will make you fall in love with Punjab all over again. This restaurant has been designed keeping in mind the culture and roots of Punjab, the ambience transports you back in time to a Punjabi village where everything reminds you of old times. The place is also famous for its warm hospitality because every person is served a grand Punjabi meal in the most royal Punjabi way.
If you have ample time to stroll around the city, you can always visit places like – Desh Bhagat Yadgaar hall, St. Mary’s Cathedral church, Sodal temple, etc. The city is huge on religious sects and places and will not disappoint you even one bit. Have a happy stay!

Jalandhar is one of the happy-go-lucky city I have ever been to! The people, the food and the places, it is a complete pack to let you embrace the memories of the time in a long run. It can be seen as a perfect combination of the religion centre with an angle of science. While we have gurudwaras, jama masjid and prominent temples in the city, at the same time, Pushpa Gujral science city adds to the scientific corner of the town.
Jalandhar is my favorit traveling destinations in Punjab. Thanks to the Indian Youth for sharing such information with the whole world. Keep it up !
