In India, an average wedding costs between 10 lakh to 15 Lakhs . Whereas, if you look at the middle class wedding, it would cost somewhere around 15 lakh to 30 lakhs. These are superficial numbers which could numb the poor. For the poor, marriage is a luxury and it barely ends up on a satisfactory note for such families. However, there’s one person who has set an example for the poor that if they have nothing, there’s still hope for them. South West Delhi councilor Mr Ramesh Matiala from AAM AADMI Party last year on July 4th, 2021 took an initiative to change that and he has been doing the same ever since then.
What Has Mr Ramesh Matiala Done Inspiring Others?
On the eve of his Birthday, State President of Delhi AAP Youth Wing, Mr Matiala decided to set-up an amazing example for other political leaders to follow. He decided to marry off two girls who have been underprivileged and they had entered the age to get into an institution of marriage on July 4th, 2021. So, what Ramesh Matiala did was to set-up their marriage and incur all the costs associated with the marriage. He had asked all the members from his ward 37S of the Aam Admi Party to be present and support his cause. However, he had abstained from accepting any financial help from his party members. Rather, bore all the cost of the marriage. In this marriage, he gave gifts from his own side like bedding, cupboards /Almirah, utensils, clock and a bicycle. These things are necessary for the daily requirements that a bride needs when she goes to a new house.
Mr Matiala also included other members like Spokesperson Durgesh Pathak and MLA Mahendra Yadav. They were also a part of the cohort who had helped these underprivileged girls to experience their marriage.
Indian marriages have a long history of sustainability and if you look at the cost of the marriage, it would make you believe what parents foresee and save over their lifetime to see their daughters get married. These girls whom corporator Matiala supported had been facing a very tough financial crisis. They found it very hard to make their ends meet.
Why is This a GroundBreaking Initiative?
At such times, when someone as generous as councillor Ramesh extends their support, it re-establishes the fact that humanity is still alive and there could be a lot of things which can be done towards those who really deserve the love and support. Through helping these two girls, and many more to follow in the upcoming period, Mr Matiala has set a strong narrative and somewhat nullified the bad image with which people often foresee politicians.
There are many in society who are helping towards making this world a better place. Mr Ramesh Matiala’s initiative is not just a random act of kindness but a revolution which will ignite the passion in other people to take the course of humanity and do something worthwhile for the society.
