Naik Jadu Nath Singh was the fourth recipient of the Param Vir Chakra that was awarded to him for his courageous spirit and spontaneity of tackling the horrendous battle situation; singlehandedly. He was truly a lionhearted soldier who selflessly sacrificed his life to rescue the motherland. He was awarded with the Param Vir Chakra posthumously. Nair Jadu Nath Singh was born on 21st Novemember in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was commissioned in the 1st Battalion Rajput Regiment in the Indian Army on 21st Novemenber 1941, the War of Indo-Pakistan of 1947 happened to be the last war he had fought for, because during this battle only he lost his life. Naik Jadu Nath Singh died on Feburary 6th 1948.
Military life and Battle of Taindhar
During the winters in 1947 in the Jammu & Kashmir Operation the Pakistani intruders achieved an advantageous position in the Naushahra sector but this did not threaten the Indian troops rather Brigadier Usman of 50 Para Bridgade had made every possible preparation in order to face the enemies and to give them a tough approach. It was the foggy early morning of Feburary 6th 1947 when the enemy began to attack the Indian posts from their pickets on the Taindhar ridge. Within few minutes the whole of Taindhar and its surrounding hills turned into a crucial spot of outburst of guns and mortar firing. The enemy took full advantage of the foggy darkness in which thousands of hostiles happened to surround the Indian pickets. On feburary 6th Jadu Nath Singh was appointed in forward post of the Indian picket No. 2 at Taindhar. Nine men along with Naik Jadu Nath were guarding this post.
The enemy now had the intentions to attack this post. They began to attack this post thourougly that made four of the Indian guarding men of this post badly injured but this is when Naik Jadu Nath Singh showed great courage and determination. He so bravely took the charge of this post and tried to muster up his ruined menforce to bash up the enemy even better than before. When he realized that his menfolk are no more able to fight the battle then he decided to personally took over the Bren gun from the Bren-gunner and to continue the fight. Naik Jadu Nath Singh then again began to fire against the enemy and his spirit to win and save the post was so vigorous that it led the enemy to back out from that post with cold sweat. Thus he succeeded to save the post a second time.
The enemy was not ready to accept its defeat thus they began to attack for the third and last time. They were now more determined to hijack the post than the previous try. By now there were many causualities in the Indian troops and all the crew members of Naik Jadu Singh’s post were badly wounded, even Jadu Nath himself was injured but who could stop this undaunted and courageous man? So he again put up his gun and decided to continue this battle till his last breathe. He now came out of the post and began the firing from his sten gun on the enemy. While he was fearlessly firing on the enemy two bullets coming from the enemy’s side pierced his head and chest. But before Naik Jadu Nath Singh happened to fall on the ground and take his last breath he managed to scared the enemy by his daring spirit that drove out the enemy from that very area right away. In this way Naik Jadu Nath Singh succeeded in resucing the post as the part of rescuing operation of Naushahra. He was indeed a true soldier whose death was heroic and self-sacrifice for the motherland was magnanimous, he was indeed a Param Veer.
