In case, you are flummoxed as to whatever did I mean by the rhetorical question — ‘Why are nationalism haters turning into India haters?’, don’t worry for we will soon analyse this strange scheme of things. And what’s more — we will do it logically and right this very instant.
You see…somehow…over the last few years, the word “nationalism” acquired a negative connotation and slowly became synonymous to ‘saffronisation’ or ‘Hindufication’. As expected (and as was planned by certain forces in and out the country), it became fashionable to hate nationalism! I mean…think about it…how many people out there would really be comfortable saying they were “nationalists” if being a “nationalist” meant being a “saffronist”? Especially given the fact that being a “saffronist” would be seen as violence-loving fascist maniacs, who would happily play Hitler so they could purge the nation of every person who was not a Hindu.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that no reasonable man or woman would like bearing the label that would peg him or her as a violence-loving maniac? So, what did happen? Interestingly, in order to prove to the world that they indeed were not violence-loving maniacs, they slowly – and ironically! – turned into nationalism-hating maniacs, without realising that they were still going the wrong way (and still acting like maniacs), even if all they indeed wanted was to prove that they were indeed reasonable and secular men/women.

In other words they were so afraid of appearing biased and leaning to one side, that they deliberately chose to become biased and leaned further to the other side. To understand this, let us take an analogy. Imagine if you had a child of your own and then went ahead and adopted another child. Thus, in order to prove to the world that you were not favouring your own child, you would start bestowing greater attention/affection/gifts/opportunities to the one who was adopted while neglecting or ill-treating your own-born. Now, is that fair?
That is exactly what happens in the case of these pseudo-seculars too. Just to appear “secular” [hence they are called pseudo-secular] and in order to appease the minorities, they would be willing to persecute the majority. [Without realising they were once again supporting the cause of “persecution”. So, basically…since they did not want to appear “pro-Hindu”, they went and became “anti-Hindu”. In other words, they would deliberately choose to persecute one group of people simply to prove they were not persecuting another group of people!]
I know it sounds confusing…trust me, their warped thought processes have become so twisted, they fail to realise that persecution is persecution, irrespective of the fact that who is being persecuted. And so, these saffronisation-haters turned into nationalism-haters, which sadly became synonymous to India-hating. In other words, simply to prove they were not crazy nation-loving fascists, they happily partake in anti-national narrative…simply to prove they are indeed secular! [P.S. – Don’t worry, if it doesn’t make sense to you! To them, it makes perfect sense!!]
