Maruti Suzuki’s flagship product, the S-Cross has not been extremely popular in the market by the Maruti standards. Yet, the most expensive Maruti car in India has been selling decently at around 2,000 units per month. Maruti has just launched the new, updated version of the vehicle in the Indian market. Here is all you want to know about it.
Looks
The new S-Cross carries the same outline as the previous generation vehicle. However, Maruti has done changes to part lying ahead of the windscreen. The car gets a new bumper, new headlamps with projector LED lamps and LED DRLs. There is also a new vertically slanted grille that gives it more attention grabbing power.
Maruti has also put heavy creases on the bonnet and the whole face is little upright than the previous model. On the side, the car gets same looks except the new 16-inch alloy wheels that get wider 215 profile tyres as compared to the 205 profile tyres in the current generation. The rear is almost identical to the previous generation except the change in bagde and LED tail lamps.
Interior
The interiors carry subtle changes that give it a more premium look and feel. The layout of the instruments and other space is exactly similar to the last version of the S-Cross. The changes include new soft touch material used on the dashboard, and new bezel around the infotainment system.
Apart from that, everything else remain the same. The car still gets the 7,0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is tilt and telescopically adjustable leather wrapped steering wheel that also gets various functions. There is cruise control and other infotainment controlling buttons on the steering wheel.
There is an improved MID that shows average fuel consumption, average speed and distance to empty.
The car gets leather seats in the top trim which feel very premium. The S-Cross is quite spacious and offers a lot of legroom. However, there is no rear AC vent, which makes it difficult for the rear passengers. The rear seats can be reclined too. For the rear passengers, Maruti has provided a central armrest with two cupholders but the 12V socket in the rear is placed inside the boot of the vehicle.
Drive
Maruti has discontinued the 1.6-litre engine. Now, it is only available with the 1.3-litre diesel engine which generates a maximum power of 90 Bhp and peak torque of 200 Nm. Maruti has added the SHVS mild Hybrid technology to the vehicle that increases the mileage from 23.7 km/l to 25.1 km/l.
The S-Cross is very stable at high speed. However, the car takes a bit of time to reach high speed due to the underpowered engine. Apart from that, the steering has good feedback and lets you control the vehicle with confidence.
Should you buy it?
The S-Cross starts from Rs. 8.49 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. At this price point, it massively undercuts the price of the Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta in the market. The S-Cross is a fresher car in the market and it looks way better than the previous model too. Even though it does not look like a proper SUV, the S-Cross sure has potential to get massive numbers from the market.
