Before we even begin, let’s get our definitions straight. Who is the youth? Is it the group of people standing outside pelting stones? Is it the group of people fighting and stretching topics to unnecessary lengths or is it the group of people coming together only with the purpose of ‘ruling’ over people? None of these form the ‘Youth’ of India. None of these people could be called responsible enough to take the nation ahead.
Then who exactly is the youth? The Youth is a group of young minds, ready to find solutions and work on them in a civilized manner; they understand their responsibility of maintaining peace and harmony. They know that there are better ways to solve a problem.
Now that the definition is clear, let’s come back to the topic at hand. Why is it important for the Youth to have an Authentic Voice?
They have fresh minds!
The youth thrives on out-of-the-box thinking. They want to do something radical that’ll get them the recognition they want to earn for themselves. They have the energy, will and patience to do something that hasn’t been done before. They don’t think about the traditional ways, they try to go deeper beneath the surface; they try to see the broader picture. They analyze, criticize and look for patterns to break. They have the tenacity and persistence to complete the task at hand and if they fall down, they have the strength and hope to get back up.
They are the Future.
The youth not only sees, but feels the problems that could arise. They relate to it and know that they will be the ones who’ll be bearing the brunt of it in case they don’t fix it right away. They need to set base for themselves to fall back on in the future. They think about what they would want in their lives and feel the urgency of taking a step a lot more than anyone else.
The world is at their fingertips.
Being exposed to a lot more cultures just on one tiny screen can make a world of a difference. The simple connection to so many different cultures has changed the way they look at life, the way they perceive people and the way they consider ‘power’. They see the effects of media, and are learning how to make use of it for their benefit.
The Generation Gap
No matter how much everyone tries to deny it, the generation gap does make a huge difference to the way people react to certain situations or the importance everyone gives to certain aspects of life. The way the youth (of any generation) is wired, is very different. They’re always a tad bit more advanced in their way of thinking. It is evolution after all, and evolution is a product of modification and the development of a sense of purpose. The youth will always come up with things that don’t make sense to the previous generation but will always make sense to their own.
Reformed Work Ethics
The reason why the youth works and the way the youth works is usually very different from the previous generation. There seem to be more young people working for a cause rather than money. The main focus is ‘creating a difference’ and not ‘earning money’. (Although, money is good too)
Education
The competition for good grades has made the youth very competitive, and although this could be a bad thing, it could even be used in the nation’s favor where we use this competition in a healthy manner and benefit from it. The Education standards and educational expectations are so high, that the youth does not have an option but to strive for excellence.
All of these points and more make the Youth worthy of having an Authentic Voice in the Society. They are the future ‘doers’. Giving them a taste of their responsibilities and duties now will nurture them to be a lot more efficient in their work in the future. The Voice of the Youth can be the change this nation needs. The Voice of the Youth can be the strength for which the Nation bleeds.
