The Congress Party is a strange strange place where stranger-than-strange events are as commonplace as the common cold! In fact, I am pretty sure that even Alice would have found it a much bigger wonderland, despite her very personal visit to the land of Wonders — aka the original “apolitical” ‘Wonderland’!
Of course, if you are finding it difficult to follow the premise of the present article: let us recap a couple of recent events that transpired vis-a-vis the Congress, shall we?!? Just a few days back, the district Congress President of Congress — namely, Vinay Pradhan — was sacked from all his positions within the party! Why? Well, simply for referring to the Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi as ‘Pappu’ on a WhatsApp group chat. As expected, the acts of Shri Vinay Pradhan was alleged as gross indiscipline by the Congress party, for which Pradhan was also been served a Show-Cause Notice for using derogatory language against a senior party leader.
Now then, if we were to simply assess the Congress’ action on Vinay Pradhan, we would have to admit that the use of derogatory language against the senior party leadership definite amounts to gross indiscipline, for which people could be served show-cause notices and be sacked from their positions. Then again, apparently not! And we would be wise to not jump to such conclusions…so soon!
For had that been the case, the first thing the Congress party would have done would be to serve a show-cause notice on the the Congress leader and son of former Delhi chief minister, Sheila Dikshit, — Mr. Sandeep Dikshit, for using derogatory language against the army chief. [Note to reader: Sandeep Dikshit compared the Army Chief, Bipin Rawat, to a ‘Sadak ka goonda’ for which both he and his party received a fair amount of flak from the general public!]
Of course, if you thought that the same rules would also apply to Mr. Sandeep Dikshit…then you would be grossly mistaken. After all, Sandeep Dikshit was neither served a show-cause notice nor was he sacked from the party. In fact, he did not even receive so much as a rap on the knuckles! Why? {Well, that is a question that only the senior congress leadership can answer!]
Hence, Congress did what we all expected from them all along. They took swift action against Vinay Pradhan while displaying a strange inaction against Sandeep Dikshit.
Of course, if you are still confused as to why Rahul Gandhi did not sack Sandeep Dikshit for using derogatory language against the Army Chief, you need a lesson in the laws of our wondrous land. You see, in the strange land we inhabit, it is not the ‘what’ that constitutes or amounts to indiscipline. It is the ‘who’ or the ‘whom’! In other words, it is not the deed that decides the punishment; it is the man! Or in other words, when it comes to indiscipline (by the act of using ‘derogatory language’), it is not important to look at the ‘what’…the question invariably becomes — “WHO” said ‘what’ against “WHOM”?!?
Politicians shouldn’t ? Just a comment?
