Democracy is an old concept, which refers to “of the people”, “for the people” and “by the people”. It is a form of government, wherein the citizens of a nation elected their representative to form a Government. However, of late it has been witnessed that democracy in India is just for the namesake and an autocratic form of government exists today. This is happening due to lack of education among people, lack of awareness, etc. The concept of democracy is now solely confined within the pages of our history and political science books. It has lost its actual meaning and needs to be refreshed completely. This is only possible through youth movements in India.

Today’s youth have lost their faith on the government and the voting system that exist owing to the escalating corruption and manipulations in the system. The young crowd today, prefer standing among the crowd and not with the government. Their voices are much louder today and several instances of the recent past can be presented, where the voice of the youth has brought changes to our society. They have become aware of their rights and are no longer ready to compromise on anything. They are ready to fight for their rights and have become intolerant against any injustice as they very well understand the Indian politics, which is a pit full of dirt. The young crowd is not ready to get trapped in the dirty politics that exist today. The youth have started raising their voice against any social evil, social injustice and even in terms of injustice done by government. This is indeed a good sign, which will help in bringing about fair democracy in India. Owing to the youth movements in India, several fast-track courts have been established to provide justice to the victims.

Youth movements are a good thing that is happening in the country and is like a ray of hope that will help in establishing a fair and just democracy. However, these movements should not come under the influence of any political party as it will damage the idea behind democracy. It is important that youth should remain neutral and support should be issue based. They should not rally behind any political leader blindly, rather think rationally and support for a cause.
