It has been 65 years of India’s Independence and India has developed remarkably in every field, especially in the field of Information Technology and Telecom. Indian society is changing and modernization has been accepted by our society. The status of Indian women is also changing and women are no longer confined within the four walls of the house or under pardah system. However, I cannot deny the fact that Indian women despite of gaining independence, empowerment and success, still women are falling victims of various crimes. Nevertheless, like any other society, our Indian society also has some drawbacks but it is in the process of changing and women are given priority.

Women in Modern India, with the spread of education, have become empowered and have been successful in leaving their marks in various fields. Indian women have even reached the moon and this is one of the most remarkable achievements of Indian women. We, talk about equality of status and yes, to a certain extent women are regaining their lost status as it was the status of women during ancient times. Indian women have evolved and have achieved the zenith of success as renowned authors, singers, dancers, poets, actors, politicians, doctors, engineers, scientists, lawyers, business women, sportsperson, etc. The situation of women is no longer the same as it was during the medieval period. Women have achieved a lot of success and have brought glory to our nation by contributing in various fields. We have many instances to boast on our women folk and some of them are Pratibha Pati, the first ever women President of India, Kalpana Chawala, the first Indian woman to reach the moon, Indra Nooyi, etc.

Today, Women are no longer considered as economic liability, atleast in the cities and daughters are treated as equal with that of boys. They are given the freedom to choose their own destiny, they are provided with quality education, they are given all the amenities as well as opportunities to showcase their talents. Parents consider their daughters at par with boys and provide them with the same facilities. This proves that women in our modern society are in the process of regaining their lost status. However, even though our society is changing drastically and women are being empowered, still we have a long way to go. The social evils like dowry, child marriage, domestic violence, female foeticide, etc still exist in some parts of our nation and women fall victims of such evils. However, this can only be curbed by making women more stronger and letting them know about their rights. There are still many women in the interior part of our nation where women are still considered as the most vulnerable section of the society and they fall victims of several social evils and crimes and this can be reduced only by spread of education and by making our legal system stronger. Financial independence of women is the need of the hour as this can make them stronger and fight against their rights as well as for justice.
