In the ancient times, women were given equal status as that of men but the status of women was lowered during the medieval period. India being a patriarchal society, women were always been treated as lower to men and were always confined withing the houses. Women were treated as material object and were taken as an economic liability. However, with time, the status of women in India has changed and women are gaining the lost status. Indian women has made remarkable progress in every field. They have even reached the moon and became the President of India as well.

Women in India are now at par with men especially those living in the Urban areas. They have achieved a lot since the time of Independence. Education has made women folk stronger and are no more considered as economic liability. Although some social evils like dowry, child marriage, female foeticide still persist in the Indian Society but definitely Indian Women have achieved a lot in the recent times.
