in 1830s, William Adam, the scottish missionary toured the villages of bihar and bengal. the report he prepared on indian local schools was very interesting. he said that there were over 1 lakh paathshalas with no more than 20 students each. it had very flexible teaching systen due to which the children of peasants can study according to their needs. like there were no classes during harvest time when they helped their parents. do you think it was right??
this is very interesting statistics which many of us are unaware of.. i think government should consider such strategies in villages where most of them are farmers. many of the children are kept back from going to school due to the help which they render to their parents. it has become a tradition that little males are employed by their parents to give them a helping hand and learn the work. if teaching is made flexible i think parents will not hesitate to send their children to schools
