India will soon beat China in the matter of Population growth. It already has a population of 1.2 million people and on an average almost 18 million new births are there in India every year and 42,5000 babies per day. This is creating wall in the overall development of the Nation as well as leading to other issues that India is facing today. The reasons behind this are population momentum. According to which the number of people of the reproductive age is more. Government's inaccurate population control policies are to be blamed for it. Unwanted fertility due to population momentum is another reason for escalating population growth in India.
There are many reasons pertain to why population in India does not stop growing. One of the major reason is the population momentum. The other reasons of population growth in India are high birth rate and low death rate, migration, religious beliefs, illiteracy, lack of family planning, social evils like child marriage etc.
I agree with you that the main reason for constant population growth is population momentum. However, there are other reasons that leads to constant increase in population is illegal immigration of people from especially Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, lack of awareness among the economically backward classes, want of male child etc. Religion also plays a role in growth of population in India.
In my view, the population growth in India is not decreasing because of lack of proper education. People need to be educated to understand the effect of having bigger families when everything comes quite expensive. The concept of having bigger families is leading to poverty. Moreover, want of a male child is another reason for population growth in India.
