Congress had a vigorous victory in 2009 Lok Sabha elections by winning approximately full majority on its own. However, their second term has been blemished with controversies and corruption allegations like the 2G scam which is considered as one of the biggest scam of the time. They are being opposed by many social activist as well as the opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nevertheless,their projection of Rahul Gandhi, who has not yet proved any political sense, as a Prime Ministerial candidate may be of some help in their campaign build up for 2014 elections. Main opposition party BJP lost and was out after the 2009 election. BJP's rival is not Congress but they themselves.
