Indian Adoption laws are defined under the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956. According to the Law anyone who is Indian, Non Resident Indian (NRI), or a foreign citizen may adopt a child but there are specific guidelines that are needed to follow during adoption. I would like to know about the criteria, which allows adoption of a child according to Indian Adoption Laws.

The criteria for adopting a child under Indian Law is that an adoptive parent should be medically fit and financially able to care for a child. A person who wants to adopt a child must be at least 21 years old and there is no legal upper age limit for parents. However, for a child who is less than a year old, the adoptive parents can have a maximum combined age of 90 years. Also, neither parent must be older than 45 years.
