Who according to you the most popular sports personality that youngsters want to be like or imitate like them. Is it Sachin, sania, Mahender Bhupati, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh or anyone else? If you talk about only cricket then it is nothing but Sachin who wins the crown of being the most popular sports icon awards. But over all what do you think?
I think it will be Sania Nehwal. Badminton like any other games is overshadowed by cricket. Still, she has make her identity as one of the respectable person and an achiever. That is really great. No doubt still she has to go a long way. But the way she is proceeding that is definitely admirable.
@livelyfire: yes, may be you are right, but still how many people are interested in badminton or making it as their career? I guess people are still more inclined towards the game like cricket or football as these two games bring them more money, fame and name. Well, I guess government and in fact parents should take initiative to make these games popular among the youth and change the face of the indian sports which is struck to cricket only.
And this world cup makes cricket more popular than before. I was surprised to know that cricket is now giving birth to new professions also. One of them is Player Nutritionists. But people need to think that in a population of 100 million only 11 players can play. I got some big hopes with Sania Nehwal. Hope her performance can change the attitude a bit.
@livelyfire: Sania Nehwal's performance can definitely change the attitude but when you are talking about 11 players who can play cricket out of millions of population then to play badminton it requires just two players. Anyway, Cricket is definitely over shadowing the other games and that too after the winning of world cup the popularity just rises high. Cricket is giving birth to not only player nutritioners but also trainers and other local or state level champions.
Sachin tendulkar in Cricket and sania nehwal are considered as the most stylish and iconic sports stars these days. Both have got a great height in their career at the early stage. They both have maintained their dignity with intelligence and playing skills where as most of the other players have come under doping and drug results.
Most of the youngster's imitate Dhoni's stylish trend. Youth don't imitate sachin tendulkar but they worship him. Girls used to imitate sania mirza before but now it's all saina nehwal's fever that is rising high on the indian girls! I guess every player is an icon that is the reason they are so popular. They are admired by the huge number of people across the world.
