Honour killing is one of the heinous social issues that have been growing in our Indian society under the nose. People tend to kill and murder the innocent adults for the sake of their pride and family prestige as if a life has no value for them. There have been many cases of honour killing recorded in the last five year which have shown spine chilling incidences of brutal killing of the couples who dared to marry or love against the boundaries of their castes and family pride. This is really disgusting to see that at one hand we are talking of development and at the other hand we are brutally killing our youth just because they refused to follow the orthodox ethos of the society? When would the people of our country grow mentally, the psychology of people is still so much menial and dull that it takes them not a minute to brutally kill their own offspring/kin/relative in the name of their fake pride. When would they understand that casticism and orthodox boundaries have been forgotten long time back?

There have been many cases where real brothers, parents and close relatives brutally kill their young adults and what they reply in their defence is just a rubbish. Most of them tend to believe that by killing those innocents they are spreading a message to the society that youngster should not cross their limits and should never overlook their family’s prestige and pride. They want to show to the other people of the society that those who dare to go beyond the boundary of their families deserve the punishment of killing so that they become exemplary for other youngsters. This all is disgusting!! There is a huge lapse of Literacy and education in the upbringing of such people, villages; remote and undeveloped regions of our country are more involved in honour killing because the people out there are completely illiterate. This must be stopped and the only way to stop it; is to severely punish the criminals who commit this crime.

What do you think about this, do share your views...?

It is really sad that honor killing exists in our society today. People should have the freedom to do their likes and not do their dislikes!

There is a very rigid concept of the family tradition in some families. It makes people very close-minded and unreceptive to anything that is done beyond the limits of their tradition.

They think that it brings shame to their families but this is not so always. Instead of closing themselves to the outside culture, such families should try to come out of their shells and accept differences!
