1. Denial of Financial Assistance : The British administration never provided any grant to the village fund from the village revenue for the development activities. This very badly affected the financial position of the local administrative unit. 2. Centralization of Administration : The British by establishing centralized and uniform legal system put an end to the power and authority of village administration. All types of civil and criminal matters and disputes came under the British courts. 3. Impact of Urbanization : During the British rule the proess of urbanization got a new momentum. A a result, large number of people started moving toward urban centres for various purposes. Cities became more attractive than the village. 4. Introduction of the Exploitative Zamindari System : The British introduced the zamindari system and through that it wanted to establish a new sytem of revenue collection and land settlement. This new system which the Britishers introduced to their advantage virtually ruined the village. 5. No Sincere Efforts to Revive Village Panchayats : The British administration passed certain Panchayat Acts in certain states to revive the village panchayats only for the name sake. Virtually, the administration did nothing in concrete to revive the panchayat system. 6. Impact of Industrialization and Technology : The process of Industrialization, technological advancement, improvement in the system of transport and communication and modern education which the British introduced, resulted in rural-urban migration. The western culture which the Britishers brought with them made Indians to become egoistic and individualistic. The ugly fruits of egoism, individualism, hedonism, etc also crept into the villages. This lead to group conflicts, feuds and factional strifes, caste and class conflicts at the cost of the village harmony.
