A writ is a formal written order issued by a body with administrative or judicial jurisdiction, especially a court. In the Indian legal system, “prerogative writs” can be issued by the Supreme Court under Article 32 and by the High Courts under article 226. These are issued for enforcement of fundamental rights. There are five kinds of “prerogative writs”: 1. Habeas Corpus 2. Certiorari 3. Mandamus 4. Quo Warranto 5. Prohibition
