Although, there is no specific definition of Contempt of Court, Section 2(a) of the Contempt of Court Act, 1971, defines Contempt of Court. Comtempt of court in simple words means dishonouring a Courts order. It is of 2 type, civil contempt and criminal contempt. Civil Contempt means, willfully disobeying a court's order, decree, judgment, writ or any other proceeding of court. It is willful breach of an undertaking given to a court. Criminal Contempt means the publication, whether by words, spoken or written, or by signs or visible representation or any other matter or doing of any act whatsoever, which scandalizes or which tends to scandalize, or lowers or tend to lower the authority of the court, prejudices,or interfers or tends to interfere in any judicial proceedings, interfers with or tends to interfere with or obstructs or tend to obstruct the administration of justice in any manner.
