HIV is an infection, which destroys the immune system of the body completely. This is a gradual process and eventually leads to total weakening of a significant cell component of the immune mechanism and a person affect with HIV cannot even fight against mild infections as the immune system of the body is weakened. It is not only caused by sexual intercourse or unprotected sex with a HIV+ person but can be caused by blood transfusion, using same needle and syringe used by an HIV+ person and is common among drug abusers and also from the mother to the baby before, during or after birth.
