The american Senate on Wednesday gave final congressional approval to an agreement to end the three-decade ban on US nuclear trade with India, sending the legislation to President George W Bush for signing into law.

The accord has been championed by Bush as a path to a new strategic partnership with India. Critics believe it seriously erodes global efforts to contain the spread of nuclear bombs.
