‘God-bharaai’ tradition is a beautiful and lovely tradition highly practiced in India in different castes, creeds, communities and religions. Although it is performed in many ways but in Hindus, this tradition is most commonly performed with a lot of excitement and compassion. It is basically a tradition tha is performed during the pregnancy period of a lady and particularly when the Seventh month of the pregnancy just begins. It is supposed to be a very auspicious month and it is performed by following wonderful rituals that make this tradition truly memorable for the expecting lady. This tradition may be referred as the ‘Baby –shower’ tradition. Hindus perform this tradition on a particular day that had been already fixed by the priest. On this day the parental side of the pregnant woman is being invited by the in-laws’ family. All the ladies from both of the families do take part in this tradition. first of all the mother of the lady gifts her daughter a pink colored large cloth and then places dryfruits, sweets, cash, one gold ornament, and gifts for her baby. She then very gently utters/speaks few words in the ears of the to-be mother in a way to give her blessings. Then the mother-in-law of the pregnant woman puts tilak or kumkum at her forehead. All the gifts given to the lady are usually the utility things that would be immediately used after the birth of the newborn. Then all other ladies of the family give their blessings to the to-be mother and give her presents and gifts. during performing the tradition the ladies sing traditional songs ‘badhaiyaan’ to show their joy and happiness. Both the man and the lady (couple) sit together when this baby-shower ritual is performed. The parental family of the lady gives gifts to the the elders of the her in-laws family and also to the to-be father. This is a moment of bliss and happiness for everyone and especially for the to-be parents, they are given blessings by the elders and the family members for the wellness and goodness of their newborn. There is also a ritual attached to this tradition in which the expecting lady has to stay of staying at the parental home for few days for doing some rest. But this is an optional way depends upon the convenience of the lady and the family.
