The book Village by the Sea is a book which depicts the cohesion between the rich and the poor, which touches lives in the untainted comprehension that life is good. The story very well depicts and characterizes the standard of living of the poor Indian families living nearby a Sea and their only hope, fishing and those palm trees. This is Anita Desai's first novel for children, and it received the Guardian Children's Fiction Award. This is one of the best book by the veteran Indian author who brings out the reality of Indian society with utmost simplicity .
