One of the most contentious subjects in the Indian academic world, ever since the introduction of British Empire, if not more, and especially after the introduction of the Leftist school of thought in the post-independent India, has been the Aryan invasion theory. Did there happen any such invasion in the pre-historic days ever? Did the Aryans come all the way from Europe, trounce a more advanced civilization and settle down here forever inheriting some of nonstarters’ cultural traits? Could this be possible ever? Even if the so-called efficacy of the same theory may amaze you a great deal, academic soldiers of Western and Leftist world are steadfast to go on with the same.

In accordance with their tenets, the land of India was invaded and subsequently stamped down by itinerant Indo-European tribes with light-skin from Central Asia in the region of 1500-100 BC. They were strong enough to cause the downfall of a previous and more sophisticated dark- Dravidian civilization with skin and it is from these people they took the majority of what later turned out to be Hindu culture. As per the propagators of this Aryan invasion theory, "Vedas", the holiest or most sacrosanct and original scriptures of primeval India along with Indo-Aryans, is nothing other than primordial poems of rough-edged plunderers.

Can this theory be accepted ever? It is true that the majority of Indians, in spite of going through several theories of history brought to the fore by Christian missionaries exclusively, does refuse to accept any such notion propelled by despicable designs. But this is not enough; to trounce this theory once and for all, it is essential to look into the same scrupulously. What did fortify the Aryan invasion theory then? As per these scholars, more than a few Indo-European invasions occurred in the Middle East actually, during middle of the second millennium BC, and Kassites, Mit tani and Hittites, different forms of Indo-European peoples conquered and ruled Mesopotamia for a few centuries. They consider that the Aryan invasion of India happens to be a different edition of this identical movement of Indo-European peoples.

A few excavators in Indus valley culture proclaim that they found confirmation of devastation of the culture by an exterior invasion. They do confirm that it was the Vedic culture of primordial nomads hailing from Central Asia in horse-drawn chariots, carrying iron weapons did devastate urban centers of the more sophisticated Indus valley culture, thanks to better-quality battle strategy. What is more, it was also suggested that Indus valley culture was not familiar with the usage of horses or chariots or even iron. But only a little proofs have come out confirming thus theory, and to the utter dismay of these theorists, a great number of excavations (in later ages) proved to be enough to brush aside any such conception.

What have the following excavations unearthed? In reference to those, horses were not only prevalent in Indus Valley sites but also in other pre-Indus sites also. Apart from this, great numbers of evidences of wheel, Indus seal depicting a spoked wheel as made use of in chariots, and all these point out chariots were in vogue in Indus valley culture. Later excavations have also confirmed that most of recent Indus signs are the same with those of Hindu Brahmi afterwards, there is also an organic growth among the two scripts. Widespread models, these days, advocate an Indo-European basis for that language.

    Aryan Invasion Theory

The Indian history saw a major landmark with the invasion of the Aryans. The Aryans were primarily denoted as nomads of the Central Asia who invaded India some way between 1500 B.C. and 1000 B.C. The Aryans did bring about a complete change in the culture and the thought process of India. The Aryan culture has been greatly reflected in various books which are of extreme historical importance. The Aryans are known as warriors who did take over India from the Dravidians. A lot of research work has been done in this regard. Several battles have been addressed, but there are certain points which are still not clear. The Aryan invasion is such an interesting subject, that there are several research scholars from all over the globe who have this subject as their main research point.

It is said that, if a complete picture of the invasion history can be formed, then several doubts would get clear. The Aryans are mainly denoted as nomads, but Max Muller has described the Aryans in such a way, that it does not match the status of a nomad. The Dravidian civilization is known to be much more advanced than the Aryan civilization, which has been proved by the Harappan culture. It has been said in several occasions that the Aryans had horse driven chariots, which formed the basic strength of the Aryans and helped them to overcome the Dravidians. However, the idea of a chariot does not go hand in hand with a bunch of nomads. The Vedas have described war between the light and the dark in several areas. However, the scholars believe that this war is actually the war between the light skinned Aryans and the dark skinned Dravidians.

The Vedas tell us a lot about the culture of that period. The Vedas help us in understanding the culture of the Aryans. All the four Vedas, the Rig Veda, the Sam Veda, the Atharva Veda and the Yajur Veda speak volumes about the culture of the Aryans. The picture that can be drawn from the Vedas does not match the lifestyle of a nomad at all. There is a lot of confusion about the invasion period of the Aryans as well. There are several scholars who come up with different date ranges and each has a set of logics to back them.

This factor has made the study of the Aryan period, even stranger. There are several things which we know about the Aryans, but there are many more we do not. There are certain facts which we know as true, but actually are myths. A good example of this is the use of the word, Ayas. It has been said that Ayas means iron. From this base, it has been said that the Aryans knew the use of the metal iron, which the Dravidians did not. However, in the Rig Veda, the term Ayas has been used several times, and wide variety of colour range has been associated with it. This has forced modern historians to think that the term Ayas is actually a generalised term. In most probability the Aryans used the term for metals. Thus, there are several myths of the Aryan invasion theory.

The number of studies and research works done in this regard shows that the Aryans are not the origination of Indian land. the fact is that the real Indians who originated from Indian soil are the Dravids or south Indians, people with dark skin color are the true inhabitants of this land. it means the majority of the people, we the Aryans, are not real Indians.
