India’s cultural heritage is not only one of the best of the most ancient, but it is also one of the most widespread and varied among many. It has its own geographic, ethnic, religious and linguistic background. In its background we also observe the Prehistoric Indus Valley civilization which flourished over 4,000 years back. The Vedic civilization has laid the grand spiritual foundation of India’s culture and philosophical thought. India’s cultural heritage represents different ethnic groups, linguistic communities, and religious backgrounds that have merged into the population to contribute to its diversity, richness and vitality. In the process of evolution India has acquired a composite culture featured by stable but different patterns. In the present day Indian culture is the result of cultural contact, cultural diffusion, cultural assimilation and cultural conflict that took place previously among different groups and communities.
