Dowry is basically considered to be a set of gifts, trousseau, utility things and other belongings; gifted to the girl by the parents and the family at the time of her marriage. However this concept/trend of dowry has been long established since the times of the Aryans in the ancient India but it was never mandatory for the parents of the girl. It is only in the modern Indian society that the trend of dowry has taken over a new image that is certainly not at all pleasing. In the so called modern Indian society dowry has become an obligation for the parents of the girl and perhaps been adorned and polished with the contrived menial ideologies of the people/family of the bridegroom. Numerous of innocent brides have already been burnt under the fire of dowry greed, many brides are tortured and harassed every day to bring more and more dowry from her parental family. And when the bride finally gives up and wants to put a full stop to this unending greedy demands of her husband's family then she has to pay the biggest cost for this! She is being burnt alive or brutally murdered by the family. This is really horrendous yet sad to see that for the sake of few materialistic contentment and alluring money, how ferociously people burn the innocent girls! Either the trend of dowry should be stopped completely or the people who are greedy for this dowry must be punished extremely strictly by the Law. What is your point of view about this phenomena?
