Assam the gateway to Nort-East India is since a long time suffering from the problem of terrorism. There are about 37 terrorist gropus in Assam. The most famous and talked about groups are the ULFA (United Liberation Front of Asom) and the NDFB( National Democratic Front of Bodoland).

United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was formed on April 7, 1979 by Bhimakanta Buragohain, Rajiv Rajkonwar alias Arabinda Rajkhowa, Golap Baruah a.k.a. Anup Chetia, Samiran Gogoi a.k.a. Pradip Gogoi, Bhadreshwar Gohain and Paresh Baruah at the Rang Ghar in Sibsagar to establish a "sovereign socialist Assam" through an armed struggle. The ULFA has a clearly partitioned political and military wing. Paresh Barua heads the military wing as the ‘commander-in-chief’.

The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was formed on October 3, 1986. The outfit was originally established as the Bodo Security Force (BdSF) under the leadership of Ranjan Daimary. On November 25, 1994, the BdSF rechristened itself as the NDFB.

These groups were formed as a result of unity and need for a seperate land. Both the groups demanded seperate lands as they were suffering from identity crisis.

People of Assam are very much disturbed with the terrorist attcks on and off and as a result losing their near and dear ones. It was so that a point of time way back in the '90s, granade attacks were very frequent in and around the city of Guwahati as well as other in other parts of the state. The bandhs called by the various groups forced people to follow the bandh with the fear of mishapps that keeps on happening. People were terrorised by the various groups.

Although some of the members of both the groups have come out to the main stream for peace talks but still the question lies in the mind of the Assamese people how far will it be successful? Will we ever be able to live in peace?

Assam has been facing many terrorist attacks in the last few years.Ulfa has been bothering our state in a violent way which is disturbing for the government to process in a peaceful way.Due to these issues Assam is unable to go forth in the direction of development unlike the other states.

The state of Assam has been a victim of terrorist attack since a very long time. There are so many small and big groups of terrorist organizations that is ruining the peace of the state making it unsafe to reside. Be it ULFA, NDFB and other such organizations have put a halt in the development of the state and is unable to progress like the other states despite of having extraordinary potential as the state is bestowed with abundance of natural resources, minerals etc. Government should now take stern measures to eradicate the long persisting issue of terrorism and make the mesmerizing land of Assam a safer place to reside.

Many terrorist organizations mushrooming in Assam and is creating a havoc in the whole state. The state has faced terrorist attacks quite often but sadly enough, there has been no effective measures taken by the Government to remove terrorism from the state. Terrorism is hampering the growth and development of the State and instead of initiating peace talks between terrorist organizations like ULFA and NDFB, should be given death sentence for taking so many lives as well as creating a threat to the National Security of the country as a whole.
