T.N. Suresh Kumar, a senior scientist working with the #ISRO’s Master Control Facility in Hassan. He has a family and kids and he lives a quiet life. In 1985, he was one among the four selected by ISRO to travel to space. Unfortunately the program was dropped due to the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger in 1986.

Fortunately, he embarked on a new goal in his life to touch all the
continents of the globe. To fulfil this goal, he and his wife started working and saving all the resources and after 12 years, they started their first trip to the Far East countries in 1997. Mr. Kumar has visited 110 countries across seven continents over the last 15 years. His wife Geetha, also a senior scientist at MCF in Hassan, has accompanied him to 87 countries.

And recently, he did more than visiting countries / continents. He came closer to fulfilling his first dream of travelling to space by becoming the first Indian to visit the stratosphere – the second layer of the Earth’s atmosphere. He made it to an altitude of 17,100 metres on August 15, 2014 in a MIG-29 from Sokol Airbase near Nizhny Novgorod in Russia.

His life is a proof that you can have a 9-5 job, a family and you can travel the world too. Truly, an inspirational story and I am sure it will inspire other fellow Indian travellers too.
