A brave, honest and young IAS officer, Smt Durgashakti Nagpal, who took on the powerful sand mafia in Noida, was hurriedly suspended for supposedly demolishing the wall of a mosque which was an illegal construction as per SC orders. The politicians of the ruling SP government who are justifying the suspension, claim that it could have led to riots. However no such indication has been given in the reports of the local administration. Reports suggest that the real reason behind the suspension was that some politicians were not at ease with her actions on the sand mafia. By suspending her the politicians also tried to project themselves as the protectors of the minority group. However muslim groups have now come forward and sent open letter of support for Durgashakti Nagpal. We join them! As concerned citizens we want to stand up for such honest officers so that our bureaucracy has the strength to fight the corrupt in the future too. Today India needs officers with ability and willingness to clean up the system. We all need to come together to ensure greater accountability. We take this opportunity to extend support and immense appreciation for the work Smt. Durgashakti Nagpal has done. She has become an example for many aspiring young officers and citizens like us. We hope that Mr Akhilesh Yadav will make an informed decision of revoking the suspension and stopping all sort of victimization of the lady officer.
