We talk of achieving big things, realizing big dreams, aspire to see a bright future for the country, want to excel in education and knowledge but still we all are somewhere tied with the rope of superstitions. Superstitions are basically the old beliefs prevalent in the old Indian society, laid down by our ancestors. That was the time when knowledge played no important role in the life of the people rather few old beliefs made a deep rooted place in the minds and hearts of the people. Those beliefs were more of personal views which the ancestors conveyed to safeguard people’s lives. Like, it was believed that while moving out of the home one should always step forward with the Right foot only. It was believed that one should immediately change the direction of the way if a black cat crosses the same way. Yet another belief was that, a pregnant lady should not wander alone, black color was supposed to be an inauspicious color that brings sorrow and negativity and it was believed to bring bad luck when someone sneezes before beginning of any new work, etc. But at that time education and scientific knowledge was lacking that is why those beliefs got so much of the attention of the people. What about the new Indian society that has been reformed with innovations, knowledge, and broad minded ideologies? In the new society of Intellectuals does a culture of superstition still trying to get rooted again? The Answer is little disappointing because still there are many of the people who do believe in the old superstitious beliefs even though they have realized that those superstitions no longer survive! People do follow superstitions in some or other way in their lives. May it be a literate or illiterate, in the contemporary society people have begun to see the things only from a superficial level, they are more sacred about the colors and cats and firmly believe in the power of lemon and chillies than the power of their hard work and determination. And this all is just because they do not want to bring any misfortune to their lives. But this is the high time to understand now that superstitions are baseless and jinxed beliefs, cats, lemons, black color have nothing to do with our destiny and fate. It is only and only our truthful knowledge and hard work that creates our luck and forbids the bad luck.
