Just making changes in rape law is not going to bring desired results if implementation remains lax as it is present. In fact this can be said to be true almost in case of all the laws. What we really need is quick delivery of justice everywhere including corruption cases.

In my opinion changing rape laws will not help stop rapes in India. It is important that if laws are changed, then these laws needs to be implemented properly. The main problem with our judicial system is lack of speedy trial and most importantly it lacks proper implementation of laws. Rape Laws can be changed by including fast-track courts and better implementation of laws.

    rape law changes

to change the rape law we must first change the people incharge of compiling the laws....the same law makers are the ones who break the law....the laws can be written down but we need leaders who will actualy enforce them.....in my opinion this is the real first step.....

I completely agree with you that rape laws can change any time but first of all we need to change the people who are responsible of garnering the laws. It is true these people are law-breakers and they should change their attitude so that the changes in laws can be effective. We actually need good, educated and true leaders who will be capable of implementing the laws and making it effective. What do you think?

In its report, the three-member Justice JS Verma Committee, which was set up after the December 16 gang rape, says that the panel feels electoral reforms are “integral to the achievement of gender justice and the prevention of sexual offences against women”. It then goes on to make proposals for ridding the legislature of persons who have criminal cases pending against them. Soon after the report was made public, Union law minister Ashwani Kumar stated that he had asked the Law Commission of India to recommend steps to prevent people with criminal charges pending against them from being elected to Parliament and assemblies. This is a clear indication that the government has no intention of doing anything in this regard.

You are right that there is a clear indication that the government has no intention of doing anything in this regard. But what changes in rape laws can be brought about for safe guarding the society mainly the women section? In my opinion, the new ordinance on sexual assault might make some changes but it needs to be implemented properly and people should abide by the laws. Apart from this, there should be stringent punishment for this. Don't you think so?
