Violence against women is perhaps the most shameful human rights violation, and it is perhaps the most pervasive. It knows no boundaries of geography, culture or wealth. As long as it continues, we cannot claim to be making real progress towards equality, development, and peace.

It is a major health and human rights concern. Women can experience physical or mental abuse throughout their lifecycle, in infancy, childhood and/or adolescence, or during adulthood or older age. While violence has severe health consequences for the affected, it is a social problem that warrants an immediate coordinated response from multiple sectors.

This is a thread for violence against women, I don't want men telling us how they experience violence too. Go start a thread on stopping violence against men.:)

    Something is fundamentally wrong

Its all the problem with our society madam. Always from childhood, boys are taught to keep away from girls.. This adds to their curiosity and makes them see women in undesirable ways (dont like to go into details). So, lets stop this stupidity. There shouldnt be any difference b/w men and women right from childhood and a male should not be given an impression that a female is different. This is where most of the devloped countries have succeeded....

Gursharan Madam , I fully agree to your views that Violence Against Women should be stopped with strict laws protecting women from inhuman treatment meted out to them not only in residence but in working places also.

    Hate voilence

Violence against women and girls is increasing at rapid state in the nation. It is the most disgusting matter to talk up on. The violence has made many women commit suicide and lost themselves. Government should take measures to stop violence against women and provide equal rights to them as it has been given to men.

    Education for woman

Violence against woman can be stopped if the women are educated and self dependent. Not only the women all weaker sections of the society are suffering. It's the time to empower them with education so that they can be self dependent.

    Destined to suffer

Right from the moment a girl child s born, she becomes as if a burden. As a result, the girl child doesn’t get proper nutrition and is generally malnourished. Fathers see a girl child to be a loss to their business as getting the girl married involves a huge dowry demand. When the woman goes to her husband’s house, she is constantly tortured and treated in the most inhuman manner. This got to change.

Saying women are destined to suffer is actually very wrong

Do not take it for granted that women are actually destined to suffer. Future is in our own hands. :D
Though destiny matters a lot but our thoughts and actions can make a different tomorrow for us. And this is what we can see today as women have started learning about their fundamental rights. Many of them are becoming self dependent and this is all what we need to stop violence against women today. :)

it is very easy to say that women are destined to suffer. the hard core fact is- women have suffered al through the ages because they've let the situation to be the way it was. today, the world is all together different. with so much awareness and wakefulness, women have grown higher than the fanatic thinking of the male dominating society.

violence against women is still prevailing in india. this is really an inhuman act. women stand in the respectable position of our society and they should not be treated with violence. there are acts to prevent violence against women too but some of the women are too scared to make use of judicial system. so we as responsible citizens should avoid such activities.

54% women feel it's okay for a husband to beat his wife. It is only with financial independence and awareness of women that violence against them can be stopped.

Violence against women is increasing day by day in the metropolitan cities. Recently the case of a girl who was killed on the bus stop of Dhaula Kuwan new Delhi. This girl was shot dead by a physic lover in the middle of the road at day time. None of us came to rescue that girl knowing that the girl's life can be saved if anyone would have showed courage and took that girl to the hospital. but no one did. this is fate of that girl but what about those physic lovers who do such crimes and violent things after getting refusals from girls. This is sick!!

if you walk in the metros, you can see many women being troubled and teased by the stray men who have no work. especially at places like railway stations, bus stations, women are more prone to such incidents. taking a glace at delhi, the rape cases are increasing day by day and the DP is doing meager on its counterpart to combat these issues in the capital. i think men around should be more protective towards women and police personnels should be increased on duty for their safety at busy areas.

It has now become very important to stop violence against women. the latest dhaula kuwan murder case and Gurgaon gang rape case is the burning example of violence against women and it clearly shows that women are not at all safe in the metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Gurgaon. Government should make changes in the police system and make arrangement for the security of women in such a way that even if they are going out late night for some work they should contact anytime in case of emergency and police should be available instantly for the rescue.

There are different types of violences that are prevalent in india against women and one of the main violence that needs a change is domestic violence. Still the thinking of men for women is not changed no matter how advanced she has become in the contemporary world. The violence against women is common in rural and urban areas equally. They are being bitten by the egoistic and male chauvinist men without any mistake.

Violence against women is increasing at a great pace. I simply do not grasp one thing that why only women are harassed so much by the male? Just because they are physically weak? I think the violence against women should be stopped and strict action is required by the females to stop the crime against women. In fact if you are facing home or domestic violence then you should stand firm against such issues and must not bear all the pain alone. complaint in police against the people who are responsible for the harassment.

One can stop violence against women is only through education. Education has now become a Dream for many women. The litracy rate of India still ranks low with only Kerela showing near to full literacy in the last few years.Lack of education in India has restricted its growth in almost all sectors. We find that even with free elementary education being provided by the government, most youngsters still prefer to beg by the roadside than be educated. Education can only guide women to take stand against violence.
