Nearly one-fourth of all still born babies worldwide are from India, the highest for any nation. On an average six lakh still births take place in India each year, as per the recent research data disclosed during the launch of British Medical Journal Lancet. There are 22 stillbirths per 1000 births out of 2.7 crore babies born in India.
This situation is of grave concern because this is all due to inadequate knowledge on health of mother and the baby and improper care taking during the pregnancy period. Women around India should be educated on the issues and complications of pregnancies and this can be done only by incorporating such education in schooling itself so that every the coming generation mothers would not face such a problem.
At the time of pregnancy would be mothers should take special care and concerns about the baby movements as it can be a matter of great concern for their babies. still births usually happens due to the ignorance of the mothers and they hardly take care of the baby movements at the last time of their delivery. So a proper pregnancy education should be given to them.
I think most of these still births take place in the rural parts of our country and the reason for this malnutrition and lack of awareness on pregnancy handling by the child bearer. I agree that one way could be imparting awareness information on pregnancy issues in books of school going children and at the same time, rural health officials should also conduct public health awareness programs to make them aware of such issues.
