Sports play a major role in development of a child as physical activity quickens growth and brings about better physical and emotional health. Many researches have proved that highly active children are less likely to suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer of the colon, obesity, and coronary heart disease later in life. Sports is a good physical activity that not only sharpens the brain but also improves the body health of a human being and relives stress, which is indispensable in today’s modern life.

India is a nation with vast population of Youth and youth are said to be the future of the nation. Sports play a major role in making the youth active both mentally and physically. It is important to include sports in the curriculum in both schools and colleges. Today’s youth are more fascinated towards electronic gadgets for recreation and this is deteriorating the physical fitness as well as is hampering the mental health of the Youth. Introduction of Sports as a subject will help in youths getting involved in it. However, most of the time it is seen in India that sports in schools and colleges are put in the shade of partiality and lack of amenities. In fact, the competitive spirit developed by Indians has never been favorable in discovering Sports as a subject.

Sports uphold scores of values which can be used to mould children into better and stronger human beings. Discipline, team spirit, strategizing, crisis management and flexibility are just some of the values that can be gleaned from normal sports education. However, in India, this has never been an area looked at, except for its physical advantages. Its time that we wake up and indoctrinate these values and standards in the youth of India and sports is the perfect way to achieve this. Sports according to Indian Youth is just cricket but we have several sports like Hockey, football etc that can help youth in overall development. Moreover, Sports also helps the Youth to become successful in their professional career as it inculcates many important values needed in a human being.

In my view, Sports should be made an important part of education and encourage the youth to get themselves involved in it. This can be done by converting the subject of sports from the sidelines of the school syllabus to a mainstream subject. Physical aspects should be united with theoretical gears and games should be played with a view of learning, not winning. The Government too should take interest in this field and provide the large unprivileged youth population of the country with painless entrance to sports facilities. Sports can make better citizens as it teaches many values and these values play a great role in moral, physical as well as emotional development of a human being. However, as I said earlier, today’s youth are the future of the nation, sports is the only way to make the youth better citizens of tomorrow and help in progress and development of the nation..

I feel there has been a disconnect between the Indian youth and Sports. Youth is more directed towards the Internet and hence we can find most of them becoming couch potatoes. Media should encourage sports, and it should not just be the cricket. Media should promote other sports as well. Cricket has become the sole game in the nation which is why not many are interested to play sports.

According to me now the youth are interested in sports also more as parents also encouraging them equally with sports and education.Canvassing, various benefits given by government like jobs under this sports quota etc., are also encouraging people but only thing discouraging is as they are not recognizing the talent but only encourages when they win any cup like that.
