Congress President Sonia Gandhi sprung to her feet and waved enthusiastically when the contingent of Indian sports persons marched past the National Stadium here during the gala opening of the Olympics. Clad in a purple Banarasi saree with a golden border, Sonia stood up as soon as the 56-member Indian delegation led by shooter Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore entered the 'Bird's Nest' stadium at the Olympic Village in the Chinese capital. Sonia, 61, who arrived here yesterday on a three-day visit, is accompanied by her MP son Rahul, daughter Priyanka, son-in-law Robert Vadra and two grand-children. She will also meet Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping during her stay. A galaxy of international leaders, including 80 heads of state attended the opening ceremony. Zee News
