Should heavy school bags be made lighter?

We usually feel pity over small kids seeing those carrying heavy school bags on their tender shoulders. The weight of the bags itself is a proof that how much the child is occupied with studies in the school and this also shows the mismanagement of the schools which do not cater the student with proper time tables and study slots due to which children need to carry the whole bundle of book and copies to the school every day. But this is certainly an issue to be raised, children feel bogged down to carry such heavy bags everyday to their schools, and psychologically it also makes them feel burdensome internally. Carrying heavy school bags makes them frightened of studying and consumes whole of their energy much before reaching to the school. Even the Department of State Education Research (DSERT) has invited the general public to get involved in this very matter and to share their views about how to reduce the weight of heavy school bags of the students. As of now the prescribed weight for the school bags from class I to VIII is 1,800gms to 3,425gms.

What do you think; is this matter really worth considering? And how do you think that the weight of school bags could be reduced? Do share your views. Parents are especially invited for sharing their views.
