The 1984 riots in Delhi took place against the Sikh community of India as a revenge by the people who were against them for the assassination of the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards, who were Sikh. The 1984 riots caused death of about 3000 Sikh people as per the official value and this affected the neighboring areas of Delhi that was populated by the Sikh. The Human Rights organizations , Sikh Community as well as the media alleged that this massive killing was a planned action by the politicians and the face behind these riots was Sajjan Kumar, a political leader of the Indian National Congress.

It has been 28 years of the 1984 riots and the Delhi High Court stated that “further hearing is required” for the plea of Sajjan Kumar, the prime face of the riots that took away so many lives, who challenged the order passed by the lower court. The Justice who was appointed to enunciate the verdict on the matter said that this matter should be heard further and this disappointed the families and relatives of the victims of the riots.

During the 2002 riot in Gujarat, the Congress party stated that according to them the State Government might influence and manipulate the witnesses and moreover the people from the ruling party were involved in it and thus it should be transferred to other state for providing justice to the victims of the riot. However, the case of Delhi riot is the same as the Gujarat riot, where political influence is involved. In my opinion, even the 1984 riots cases should be transferred to other states. The plaintiff should appeal to the hon'ble Court of Justice to transfer the cases to the court of other states to provide justice to the victims of the riots.

The Sikh community being the most patriotic community of the nation that have made several sacrifices for the well-being of the nation, should be supported by the people as well as the Government, without being biased, in providing justice to the community.
