The book Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Ratner is one of the most amazingly written book. The story of the book is about the violence that took place in Cambodia between 1975 and 1979, where about two million people lost their lives due to the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime. It is about a seven year old girl who faced it and her childhood was horrified due to the Civil war and they had to flee from their own land. The author has described the situations and the emotions of the character in such an amazing way that I felt that the story was actually told by this girl. The book is little on the heavier side but a real good read. The work of the author needs to be appreciated and I would recommend this book to all the book lovers.
