The novel Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda swings between two gripping stories. One of which is plotted in India and the other in America. The year is 1984 and a baby girl was born to a lady in a small village in India whose first daughter was taken away by her husband’s family and killed. This time she did not let this happen and takes her daughter to an orphanage with the hope that she will have a better life or at the very least, a chance to have one. Eventually, her daughter is adopted by an NRI doctor couple from America. The story revolves around these two families of the little girl. This is a well written novel and the author is able to connect well between the two stories maintaining the flow which makes the book a nice read.
