The book Sea of Poppies by one of the most excellent novelist Amitav Ghosh is a novel that is set in India in 1838 just before the first Opium War. An incongruent group of people leaving behind their pasts uncovers their way to the Ibis, an ex-slave-trading ship bound for Madagascar with its consignment of coolie bonded slaves and criminals. This is a trilogy and Sea of Poppies is the first part. The novel is breathtakingly written and well-narrated the story that stages several characters. This is one of the finest novels by the author.
