I am Hari Shanker Sharma and quite new to this India Discussion forum. I just need a advice from you people on following topic to file RTI against Railway Department. Once i was traveling from Bangalore to Delhi via Sampark Kranti express (its so called super fast express) and it has run late reached Delhi after 2:5 hrs from its expected arrival. Because of this delay I lost my other connecting train and had been in big trouble. Somehow i had managed to get my home town which is 9 hrs journey from Delhi. I want to use Right to Information Act 2005 to know the reasons as to why train has got delayed. Though during my journey i didn't find anything unexpected which could delay the train. I am sure most of us who travel via train face this problem on day to day basis so am having a feeling that somewhere down the line Indian Railways should take the responsibility of this mess and start working towards improving its service. They can't have excuse every time saying "Sorry and inconvenience regretted". If something unusual happens during journey and train gets delayed that we all can understand. I want to take advice about if i can file RTI to know why train got delayed which has caused lot of damage to me personally as well. Thanks and Regards Hari Shanker Sharma
The railways need to answer The railways are providing service to us which we do buy. Thus they are very much liable to answer to us in case of any queries. Unwarranted delays can result in losing a job or failing to addend an important meeting. The railways have to show cause for every problem that we face. Everything cannot be regulated according to the will of the officials. They work for us.
We are having rights to question the Indian officials and Public servants who have been working for us. So you should definitely go forward....
yes i think people should come forward and utilize the RTI facility which is given by the government for keeping check on government officials and their working. the railways are too irresponsible for the train accidents occuring almost everyday and the delay of trains have become quite normal. it would be abnormal if any train reaches on tme. so we should question government and bring change
i have a query.. you say that RTI enables us to question the indian railway authorities for their faults. but it is restricted for giving the reason right?? does it affect in any way to the railways if anyone files an RTI?? they wont be punished for their faults.. am i right?? barely knowing the reason wont solve the problem there.
I think you should follow up the same procedure wherein you need to take the form for filing RTI inquiry and along with it take Demand Draft of some amount. You should approach the RTI section of Indian Railways to get further information and file the application.
Right to Information Act makes all Government authorities and departments accountable to the citizens of India. Even Indian Railway which is a department of the Government of India is also accountable to the people and RTI is applicable to it. You can file an application to the PIO and ask your question. They are accountable to answer every query except for the ones that might be a threat to the National Security.
