Indian state of Bihar is poised to blaze a new trail in the Nation when it thinks of Bringing the Right to Service Act by the 15th of August 2011. Right to Service act was passed by the Bihar legislature in February-March 2011 and has received the Bihar governor's assent. Besides, the Bihar government has already notified the relevant rules for implementation of the Right to service act. Under the Right to Service Act, Bihar government officials will be bound to provide Twenty-odd services to the public within a set time frame, failing which they will be liable to be fined. There is provision for appellate and review authorities who will look into complaints of non-delivery of services and impose fine on the officials concerned. Right to Service act is expected to cut down red tape and harassment of common man in government offices. The services under the ambit of the Right to Service act include issue of caste, domicile and income certificates, driving licenses and vehicle registration, police verification of passport applications, issue of new ration cards and social security pensions. Applications for these services will have to be disposed of in 21 to 60 days, depending on the service. The Right to Service Act awareness campaign is likely to be launched in June and will cover mediums like Indian newspapers, radio, Television channels and distribution of leaflets and pamphlets.
well this is a great news for the people of state bihar as they were once very much tormented by the sluggish government officials who refuse to work or work very late. now that this act has been introduced, people will get relief from these sluggish officials and work will get done soon enough in no time as there is time stipulation. people should make effective use of this act.
