Rakhi, as we all know is a beautiful and one of the most celebrated festivals in India, on this day sisters tie a thread on brother’s wrist and the brothers take the vow to protect their sisters in return. There are many of the historical and ancient myths are attached to this festival but most popularly it is known as the festival of sisters and brothers and is also a reminder for the men then they have the responsibility to protect their sisters. But today majority of the festivals are celebrated for namesake, nobody bothers to see into the real significance of that festival. Does Rakhi only meant for the sisters and brothers, or is it a reminder for the men that they have to protect only their own sisters? Apparently, most of the people in India are only focused about themselves, today is the time when men have become too much protective about their own sisters and treat other women as easily approachable or sluts. Mind it! I am only referring to those male chauvinists who treat women as ignoble identities.

I do agree that Rakhi is the festival for strengthening the bond between brothers and sisters but the essence of it would remain the same for all. Giving protection to each and every female is the foremost duty of the men. It is not only their sisters whom they should protect and help but there are many other females out there who seek safety and protection. Why should the safety and protection be limited only to your own sisters and not other females? What i mean to say is that however we are living into a male dominated society but still women deserve protection and security. On the day of Rakhi males should not take vows only to protect their own sisters but every female out there who might need their help sometime.

So, all you young boys and men out there who are reading my post, please be kind and protective towards each and every woman in this country, if you are already one of them then ‘thumps up’ for you and if you think this is something you need to bring in your attitude then don’t wait and change your thoughts right now. Do celebrate this festival with your loving sisters, give them compassion, security and protection but also don’t forget to apply the same to other women in the outside world. They are also someone’s sisters and if something bad can happen to them in front of you then it might be your sister next time.
