Pulwama is an ancient district of Jammu & Kashmir and was earlier known as Panwangam, which later came to be known as Pulgam and at present it is known as Pulwama. The district is well known as the "Rice bowl of Kashmir". The district is a popular destination among the adventure enthusiasts as they can indulge in adventure activities like trekking, skiing, mountain climbing and hiking. The district offers an amazing beauty which comprises of snow-caped mountains, mystic valleys, rhythmic waterfalls and rivulets. The place apart from being a beautiful land also has a rich cultural heritage and this can be witnessed from the ruins of 854-883 A.D, historical monuments and a blend of different architecture of Indian, Tibetan, and Islamic styles. The place also houses several temples which attracts the devotees from in and around the state. Mughal Highway, Aripal Nag and Aharbal waterfalls, Tarsar Lake, Marsar lake, Kungwattam, Nagberan, Hurpora and Shikargah are some of the major attractions of Pulwama.
