What a wonderful feeling it is to be born in a great land that is the motherland of many great and enlightened people. During the different momentous phases of Indian history there had been numerous great people who have awakened and enlightened the human race with their sophisticated and knowledgeable thoughts and ideas. The Vedic period, Medieval period and particularly the pre-independence era of Indian history had specially been acknowledged due to the emergence and manifestation of Saints, thinkers and philosophers. Where Indian saints tried to emerge the hidden thirst for knowledge and bliss within the human beings, the thinkers and philosophers tried to awaken the long slept zeal and enthusiasm in the hearts of mankind. Indian history is full of many evidences and instances where the Indian saints and thinkers were witnessed to sacrifice their lives and precious moments for the well-being and the benefit of the human race. Indian saints have actually tried to bring the eternal truth out of the papers ans scriptures into the real and practical lives of the human beings, they have simplified the truth and tried to make the vast and sophisticated knowledge of the Supreme Being ; easy and absorbable for each one of us. Buddha, Mahakasyapa, Adi Shankaracharya, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Kabir, Guru Nanak Dev ji, are just a of the names who would always be remembered for illuminating the lamp of wisdom, knowledge and truth in the hearts of the mankind. The great Indian thinkers and philosophers have also played an enormous role to widen the horizon of perceptions and thoughts of the human beings. Fortunately India has always been a lucky country where its many of the problems had been solved by the great minds. In the old Indian society there had been so many social taboos and issues (Sati Pratha, Bal-Vivah, Female Foeticide etc) which needed to be resolved before hand, there was so much of unawareness and dogmas prevailed in the pre-independence era and, there the thinkers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Vivekanand, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Bheem Rao Ambedekar, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Bankhim Chandra Chaitarjee and so on, came in front to bring a big change in the mentality and perceptions of the people. They spread awareness and tried to bring all the people together under the one roof of humanity. We should be proud to live in the contemporary society that has the foundation of great thoughts, knowledge and philosophies rendered by wonderful people.
